Mount Rushmore

Mount Rushmore

Dean, Susan, Michael, Mom, Dad, Monte, Marcy and I all went to Mount Rushmore. The walking was going to be too much for Dad, so Monte requested a wheelchair from the visitor center. We didn’t get very far till we decided Mom needed one too,

Lunch at Arnold’s

Monte and I ate lunch at Arnold’s Classic Diner with Carrol, Marcy, their longtime friends Willy & Carole Budd, and their grandson Niles. Dad wanted to see Mount Rushmore, and since Marcy was interested in the excursion too, she, Monte and I went back to

We took our time this morning going to Rapid City, and once there, we stopped at Wal-Mart to buy a few forgotten items, ate lunch at Perkins, and drove past the house Monte grew up in. Finally, we drove to Dean & Susan’s. Susan and Michael were home, so we hung out with them for a bit. Monte and I left the folks with Susan and we went for a quick tour through the hills.

We stopped at Prairie Berry Winery outside Hill City. I’d gone there with Susan & Whitney last year, and I thought Monte should try it. They allow 5 free wine samples, so we each picked five and traded, so we could taste 10. However, I only got to taste 9, because Monte gulped down his entire last sample! There wasn’t a wine we disliked, and we bought 2 bottles to give away. Once we drink the wine we already have, we might order online from them.

Room at the Inn

We decided Murdo, SD would be a good place to stop for the night. The first motel we tried had just filled their last room, so the desk clerk recommended us to the LandMark Country Inn.     Our room was a bit extravagantly furnished,

On Our Way A little after 2:00 Wednesday we packed the car to the gills and headed to Rapid City, SD to visit Dean, Susan & family, and to meet up with Carrol and Marcy, who would arrive late Thursday.   Mom with her traveling companion

The rose garden and petunias got a beating late Saturday; we had a strong wind, pea-sized hail, and 1 & 30/100ths rain within 20 minutes. However, Monte and I missed the excitement because we went shopping in Grand Island. We drove through light rain & some wind to get there, but otherwise the sun was shining in G.I.

We went to Kohl’s, and though we didn’t get the extreme bargains Mom and I had (since we were buying in-season items), we did get some much needed clothing for reasonable prices. We then went to Wal-Mart and bought even cheaper clothing. We both needed new shorts and summer shirts, especially for our upcoming trip to Rapid City.
