"To everything there is a season..."

Recipe Name: Molasses Cookies
Category: Cookies & Bars
Recipe From: Lynne Mickley
Description: This cookie recipe, adapted from "Betty Crocker's Cook Book for Boys and Girls" has long been a family favorite.
  • ¾ cup margarine or butter
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup mild molasses
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp Watkins Cloves
  • 1 tsp Watkins Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp Watkins Ginger
  • 2¼-3 cups flour
  • white sugar (for dipping)
Cream margarine and sugar. Add egg, soda, and spices. Slowly add flour till dough is stiff. (For crispy cookies, add the lesser amount of flour. For softer, chewier cookies, add the higher amount of flour.)

Chill dough for 2 or more hours. Using a spoon or cookie scoop, roll dough into walnut-sized balls. Roll the balls of dough in the white sugar and place 3 inches apart on a greased baking sheet.

Bake 10-12 minutes at 375ºF until set but not hard. Cool on a cookie rack. Makes about 4 dozen cookies.
